Finance Data Source Change

Effective August 30, 2013, the source of the finance data in the Data Warehouse (DW-EDW Finance) will change from BANPROD to REPTPROD.

Why is this change being made?
REPTPROD is a database that contains a copy of all Banner application tables & data from the time the copy was initiated (e.g., 12:30 A.M.). So, REPTROD tables will contain all data committed before that time (e.g., 12:30 A.M.). DW-EDW Finance also contains data from Banner application tables and the extracts begin at a different time (e.g., 1:00 A.M.). Most standard reports use data in REPTPROD. Because of the difference in times when data is added to REPTPROD and the Data Warehouse from the Banner application tables, instances have occurred when the data on a standard report did not reconcile to the Data Warehouse on a given day. Changing the source of the Data Warehouse Finance and Payroll tables will alleviate these differences.
Please note: Ultimately, both reporting databases (REPTPROD and DW-EDW Finance) contain the same transactions. It is a matter of when the transactions are loaded from the Banner application.

Will this change affect the way I conduct business? Will I have to do anything?
No. The data will be presented and maintained in the same way. The only difference is the timing the data maintenance begins. The REPTPROD database is a copy of BANPROD, so the Banner Finance data is the same.

What is the scope of the Data Warehouse subject areas (or data groupings) that will be sourced from REPTPROD with this change?

  • Subject Areas: EDW-Finance and Payroll
  • Data Marts: Consolidated Faculty Analysis (CFA), Expense Trends, Financial Aid Census, and Payroll Reconciliation
  • Cubes: CFA and Expense Trends
  • Universes: All Finance related universes

Should I expect any differences in the number of Data Warehouse data rows returned?
It depends: If your queries or reports are returning data older than the previous day, you should not expect any differences. On the other hand, if your queries or reports are returning data to current date/time without a delimiter, it is possible that they previously returned data rows for processing that happened today (i.e., after midnight of the previous day) and may result in differences.

Which Data Warehouse tables are affected?
See this list of tables that have a sourcing change.
