University of Illinois System

AITS Web Services

Description

AITS Web Services provide a natural extension of the AITS Integration Platform by providing SOAP and REST compatible interfaces to the underlying object-based integration services, while at the same time decoupling clients from the complexities of direct JMS messaging integration. This expands the availability of the services and functions offered in the EAI environment to a larger set of departments and systems. Specifically, departments which are not on java compatible platforms, lack the expertise to integrate with java, or are contractually separated such as 3rd party vended systems can benefit from increased service availability.

Access

Access to AITS Web Services is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and is provisioned at the individual method level. This granularity allows for compliance with University rules/standards regarding authoritative interfaces, protection of sensitive data, and segregation of campus specific data. Given those aspects of our enterprise, it is necessary to evaluate, vet, and provision access based upon specific use cases. The Integration Competency Center (ICC) at AITS is eager to work with your unit, to understand your integration needs, and to connect you with helpful solutions.

Environments

In addition to live production services, AITS supports multiple web service environments to facilitate development activities, change deployment, and system regression testing. Each web service environment can be associated with only one Banner database environment (where applicable) and the standard mapping is presented below. As noted, the Post-Development environment's Banner mapping varies as it is leveraged to facilitate upgrade regression testing against multiple database environments.
