PM Key Concepts Training

Project management is a start-to-finish approach to getting things done and making projects more successful. It's a profession, but it's also a set of techniques that anyone can apply to achieve goals and manage project work more effectively. Project management can be used to guide small, simple projects as well as complex enterprise-wide initiatives.

This 4-hour hands-on class is taught by experienced project managers. This course will give you knowledge of the basics and a set of tools that you will be able to quickly apply to your own project.

Kanban - Improving efficiency by visually seeing roadblocks

Kanban has been around for over 50 years but we are starting to see it used more frequently to manage work. This is work not just in day-to-day operations but project life cycles and personal lives as well. Kanban is a method that offers a visual look at the work that needs to be done and at the same time prevents overloading of team members. It also offers a transparent way to see opportunities for improvement, identify bottlenecks, and remove waste in a process/project. In this presentation, we will show you the Kanban method, the different ways it can be used, and the tools (both online and physical) to manage Kanban boards.

RACI - Improving communication and defining responsibilities

RACI charts (Responsible Accountable Consulted Informed) are useful to identify connections between tasks and people on a project and reduce confusion on what is expected and when to communicate. We will define, develop, and discuss how RACI charts benefit team members as both an assignment and communication tool. During this session, we will walk through the components of a RACI chart and with group session you will get hands-on experience building your own RACI chart.

WBS - Breaking down projects to eliminate missed tasks

A work breakdown structure (WBS) is a decomposition of the entire scope of a project into a list of manageable tasks. By categorizing tasks into groups or work packages it allows the team to better determine all tasks needed to successfully complete the project scope. In this presentation, we will show you how to create a WBS, the benefits of breaking down work into tasks and attendees will get a chance to create a WBS through hands-on group work. Attending the PM Key Concepts prior to this course is recommended but not required.

Lessons Learned

Lessons Learned are collected during a project to learn from mistakes and maximize on things that are going well. They can be collected anytime during a project, but are often collected at the end of a phase or at the end of the project. This interactive presentation will explain Lessons Learned - what, when, who, how, to maximize the outcome of your session. Attendees will have an opportunity to share their experiences - good and bad - on lessons learned from their projects.

Risk Management

Effective risk management helps to identify the project's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. By planning for potential risks, the project can be ready to respond should they arise. Documenting and follow-up on risks is key for managing risks. This training will walk through tips on defining risks, filling out the risk register, and managing risk throughout the project.
